Functional Medicine/Functional Health

Symptoms are misleading

"Utilizing the functional medicine approach, we aim to restore balance to the body's primary physiological processes through advanced diagnostic testing and treatments other than medication and surgery"

We find the hidden cause

Functional Health Practitioners (also called Functional Medicine Practitioners) are licensed physicians (such as MD, ND, DC, DO,…) who have chosen to continue their education as specialized health “detectives”.

Instead of treating symptoms of diseases that are visible on the surface, functional health finds and treats the underlying cause of the imbalance in the body that caused the symptoms and disease in the first place.

Using scientific principles, advanced diagnostic testing, and treatments other than drugs or surgery, Functional Health restores balance in the body’s primary physiological processes.

Our mainstream health care system works very well

for acute health problems such as heart attacks, strokes, accidents,… and uses fast-acting resources of modern

medicine such as life-saving technology, surgery, and

antibiotics.  And we are all very grateful for that.

But it does not succeed in addressing chronic and

debilitating health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, autoimmune diseases,…

To battle chronic health conditions, Functional Health uses two scientifically grounded principles:

  • Remove anything that prevents the body from healing and functioning the way it was designed to

  • Add what is lacking in the body to get its physiology back to a state of optimal functioning

Your body naturally wants to be healthy.  However, the body may be missing things needed to function at its best, or something might be standing in the way of its optimal functioning. Functional Health first identifies the factors responsible for the malfunctioning. Then it deals with those factors in a way appropriate to the patient's particular situation.

Functional Health practitioners often use advanced laboratory testing to identify the root cause or causes of the patient's health problem.  This can include specialized lab test, urine testing, stool testing, and/or saliva testing.

If you are sick and tired of being sick and tired and you have not found a solution for your health challenges, do not give up hope.  Our bodies give us many clues as to what is going wrong, and functional health practitioners are here to help you get your body back in balance for better physical and emotional health.
